What Are The Challenges In Designing For A Bigger Market?

Cost:
- What are people prepared to pay for clothing in the middle/mid range market?
- What is the cost of producing the garment, including design, sampling, testing and then the sale of the garment?
- What is the profit from the garment?


Materials and Fabrics:
- What types of fabrics are generally used in the mid range market?
- What quality of materials and fabrics are expected by the clientele in the mid market for the price they pay?


Consumer/Market:
- What are the needs, wants and expectations in the mid range market?
- What is the function of garments in this market?
- What is a most effective way to promote and attract new customers to my collection, and how do I maintain previous customers?


Finishings:
- What finishing techniques are expected for this market?
- What quality level for finishing are able to be used according to the budget?
- Will the finishings affect the care of the garment?


Quality:
- How long is the garment expected to last?
- What quality materials are expected to be used for this market?
- What is the time involved in producing a higher quality garment compared to lower quality? Is it worth it?


Ethics and Morals:
- What ethics/morals are expected/wanted by the customer for this market?
- Is is possible to produce locally? Is local production a priority?


Care:
- Are the care instructions suitable for the fabrics etc? Are they correct?
- Are the instructions easy and versatile for the customers?
- Do they reflect what type of garment it is? e.g. evening wear vs. everyday casual wear
