What Types of Garments Make a Successful Collection?

Season:
- One season or transseasonal (Australia & NZ), works for global brands as they can design for both summer and winter for the different hemisphere markets

Gender:
- Male or female

Genre:
- Not always specific (e.g. swimwear, race day wear, bridal wear) but for this project keep it general,
- Mass appeal = mid market ready to wear/street wear/ sportswear

Cover a good range of different garment types in collection:
- Jackets: blazers, parkas, anoraks etc
- Coats/outerwear: trench, pea, waterproof/weatherproof, warm, cape etc
- T-shirt/Jersey (fine knit): high neck, short sleeves, long sleeves etc
- Skirts: mini, knee-length, maxi etc
- Dresses: evening wear, casual/everyday wear, long, short etc
- Knitwear
- Underwear/Swimwear
- Accessories: shoes, handbags, jewellery etc. Don't focus too much on, only for illustration styling

Details

- Draw/visually articulate all the details in each garment from the collection
- Creating identity: unique, branding, recognisable, cohesive, how does a consumer read little details e.g. zips = invisible zip or metal zip or tailored fly on a pair of pants
- Practical: consideration of getting in and out (fastenings = buttons, zips, velcro, snaps, ties), front, back and side views = how garments look 360 degrees around the body, pockets = not about need to put things in but more about look/appeal, think about pocket positioning
- Finishing: seams, lining, topstitching etc
